"The Last Frontier" was the 49th state admitted to the union on January 3rd, 1959. If Alaska was a country, it would be the nineteenth largest in the world today based on square mileage. Despite this, its population is so low that it averages about 1 person for every square mile of the state.

This sparsely populated area features 365 million acres containing many experiences for the outdoor enthusiast that are not found anywhere else in the United States. The state is home to Mount McKinley, which is the largest mountain in North America. Visitors can gaze upon thousand year old glaciers or drive their own team of sled dogs (dog mushing is the official state sport). This exotic location is home to polar bears, bald eagles, blue and humpbacked whales, gray wolves, grizzly bears, orcas, lynx, moose and many other rare species. Finally, where else can you see a "midnight sun" baseball game?

Fun Fact: 17 of the 20 highest peaks in the United States are found in Alaska.
