A jewel in the woods

We camped at this campground for several days. It is by far the cleanest campground we have ever been to.... and we have been camping for years. From the friendly ladies in the store to the helpful grounds people, everyone working there made our visit a pleasure. Our dogs were welcome and had a blast in the Bark Park as well as swimming in the pond. The store carried all the basic necessities and many extras too. When we needed to borrow some tools, the owners were very accommodating and even came over to help us out. The little diner serves a great breakfast and is reasonably priced. The pool was clean and our children loved the mining sluice. We were looking for a friendly, family campground that was quiet, relaxing and fun, and we certainly found it!

Showed up 1 hour early and were told we could not enter the camp ground at all by a large very rude woman. We booked 5 days and left after 2 because our children 2 girls ages 10, 12 were harassed at the store, the arcade and riding there bike in the middle of the afternoon by the women that run Beaver Dam. It got to the point were my girls were afraid to leave the camp site so we left. This place could be very good if it were not for the rude unwelcoming staff that run the place. My girls are very well behaved and they were scared out of the arcade for playing the pay to play games. I would not recommend this cap ground to my worst enemy.

Not bad for a quick 1 hour drive from home and picking it on a whim. We stayed here for 3 nights with our two kids ages 10 and 13. They loved the sandy beach at the pond and catching all the frogs they could. They never even went in the pool which looked ok. They caught fish right from the dock and our canoe. I saw other reviews where people had said they felt watched. I however did not feel that way and the park was completely full. I must say the rules are strict and layed out when you register (ie: quiet time is 10pm fires out at midnite) but, I didn't see anyone getting rowdy or loud and it was nice to sit by my campfire at night and hear the peace and quiet. They did not go patrolling constantly and I'm sure I could have sat by my fire in the quiet all nite without getting monitored. The seasonals are well kept and the ones by us that were actually there were friendly. The only time I saw the owners was at the store, cleaning the bathrooms, or picking up the trash...yes there are cans right near your site and they empty the trash for you....nice. We usually camp with a large and sometimes loud group and I would not recommend this campground for that. If you want to relax, unwind with your family, and feel safe letting the kids roam together, you can do that here because it is so small and quaint. There was only 1 planned activity over the weekend besides a movie that played each nite but, my kids are older and they didn't seem to mind. My kids loved it from day one. The sites are close together, close to your neighbor with no trees as a barrier. Our site atleast had trees on 1 side and was probably the best site in my opinion. Many sites are on the pond. The pond has quite alot of weeds so fish from the docks. They have a "Bark park" it is small and all rocks but, I have tiny dogs so, it was good for them. They have mini golf but, I saw noone playing as it is small and generic. Maybe little kids would be occupied by it. Coin operated showers, haven't seen these in a campground in awhile and well, really who likes paying a quarter to shower and have it run out. I say the owners should charge 25/50 cents more per nite if they must and do away with those antiques. Only 1 set of restrooms but, its a small park. Theres a dish cleaning station outside of the restrooms which is nice for tenters. It rained all day on Sunday, there were no activities and I think leaving the TV room open with the Disney channel playing and some coloring books and crayons would have been a great idea. The camp store closed at 6pm on Sunday and the women in the store are not overly friendly but, they were not rude. Actually they seemed shocked when I smiled and said hi. I think staying open to atleast 8pm especially on a rainy day and people are looking for things to do or a hot coffee would have been a good idea. Same for their snack shack... pizza sounded good on a rainy nite but, it was closed before 6pm. All and all we enjoyed our stay and plan on booking our same site for next year.

friendly and safe

Just back from a great weekend. After reading the previous review, I was concerned about what it would be like. Now I see there is usually another side to the story... Our experience was wonderful. The owners did spend a lot of time walking around "keeping an eye" on everyone! but the key is "everyone"! I did see them talk to someone and they were very nice. It is obvious that they are working hard to make it nice for everyone, I can see that if they saw someone doing something that would bother the other campers they would put a stop to it. (they sell lighter fluid in the store too, but I'm sure they would be upset if someone was lighting a fire in the playground!)
The pond is nice but it isn't really something I would want to swim in and they do have a pool. The bathroom was very clean and they enforce the quiet times so it is great for kids.
now we did have too many people on our site and I am sure they knew it but because we were not doing anything that would bother the other campers they never said anything.
I would definitely recommend this to someone with a family they work hard to make it a friendly and safe place.

My mother has been going Seasonal at Beaver dam for many years... my nephew loves the place as well. They continue to add new things to keep people's interest. It is so so so clean there, you never see a mess around, the grounds are kept very nice. The owners are very friendly as well as the people they have working there for them. Nice area as well, close to the coast of Maine with many things to do.

If your looking for a nice place to relax this is a great place.

BEWARE OF SCARY OWNERS WITH ZERO PEOPLE SKILLS!!!

Date:

February 10, 2009

The campground owners are VERY RUDE and don't have any people skills. I was verbally attacked by one of the owners and wasn't given the opportunity to state my side of the story because she stormed off in a huff. My son bought a "stink bomb" which is a children's practical joke/gag gift from the campstore owned & operated by Beaver Dam. I walked him over to the water area and let him set one off not thinking that it would be a problem since it was sold at their onsite store. One of the owners rushed at me and my child screaming about "fireworks" - I tried to explain to her that it wasn't a firework and we purchased the practical joke stink bomb at HER store but she completely disregarded me. She upset my son with the manner she came after us as it was truly frightening (she charged at us as if we were criminals). She wouldn't listen to anything I was trying to tell her about the stink bomb that was purchased in her store. My son was so upset by the incident that he went to bed for the evening shortly after that. That night the owner walked by my tent site several times as if to "keep an eye on us" even though we didn't do anything wrong. The following day my friend went into the office and the owner gave her a refund for the stink bomb but her lack of communication skills at the time of the incident left something to be desired and I will NEVER return to this campground nor will I recommend this place to anyone else. I've stayed at Beaver Dam a couple of times before and it's a decent place but the owners have always been very unfriendly and I'm not sure why they are operating a business that requires them to deal directly with people. Overall is was a very disappointing experience that left my child very upset when it was supposed to be a fun family weekend.
