Homestead is a campground NOT a camping RESORT!
You will be located in peaceful country atmosphere with 150 year old oaks and pines. Spacious tent and RV sites situated along 2,000 ft. of the Saco River. Small family campground, we welcome groups, familes who wish to spend time together without the fear of inconsiderate people making their camping experience one to forget! The well being of our campers is first and formost. We have people that come back four or five times through out the summer season with their familes and friends, because they know it is a safe evironment for everyone.
10 min. from Old Orchard Beach, Fun Town and 25 min to Kennebunkport and 45 mins LL Bean.
Tube, Swin, Canoe and Kayak the Saco River, its wonderful!

Wonderful Campground!

Date:

July 15, 2011

We LOVE this campground. Our friend introduced it to us over 10 years ago and we try to go camping at least for the 4th of July weekend each year. What a gem... nice owners, nice campers, clean, fun, just the right mix of wilderness feeling and activities for kids. Every year Ruth and Chris and Laurie have worked to make something even better. The farmyard and the playground are wonderful for little ones. And before we had our son, it provided the perfect place to get together with friends and relax. We've camped other places a couple of times, but never enjoyed it as much as Homestead!

Just want to take the opportunity to thank Chris and Ruth for giving me the opportunity to use their campground as a temp housing for me while I looked for housing for my family.
Met a lot of people and made some good friends. I really enjoyed myself and didn’t mind the rules at all. As a matter of fact, that’s the way a campground should be run!
Great Job guys!
Now, lets work on wireless internet...........lol

Homestead Campground is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the surroundings with family & friends.

Date:

Homestead Campground is a wonderful place to spend quality time with family & friends. It is very upsetting to me the see some of the hurtful comments of some of the campers/visitors. Ruth & Chris, with the help of Chris' dad George, run a tight ship and that's what is appealing to me. I want to go camping and not have to worry about inconsiderate campers who think they can act like idiots and ruin the enjoyment of many families & friends who are there for a relaxing stay.

This is a very nice campground. The owners work hard at keeping it up. Word of caution...if you are the type that likes to party loud and late then this place is not for you. Even though we have been there for 3 years I used to think they where kinda of strict untill I camped oout at a new place recently just to try it and @ 1:30 in the morning I was wishing that the owners of Homestead was here to quiet this place down..........1:30 in the morning and people where still being loud.if they where at homestead they would be outside looking in.....all you people that think the owners are too strict would you want someone disrupting you at your house.well there is some of us that live @ the campground...and is our home.

Response from Homestead By The River on September 9, 2007

Dear whoever you are! THANK YOU. We are a small FAMILY campground, and of late we have had a few peolple that because they have paid the camping fee to camp at our campground think they own it once here. YES we do run a tight ship and this has been the worsted year on record for rude people. We are in a customer service industry and can be pushed only so far! people should remember they are guest's at our campground, if you visit other people at
that their HOMES, do you act up, act in a rude and inconsiderate manner! I do not think so.

Thank you again for your comments, who ever you are!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at your campground.
We had a very nice lot which included electricty, water and was very spacious. The Kings are a very friendly couple and meet our every needs. There is only one request that my children wanted to add and that is they had wished that there was a pool to go swimming. Even though there is a river they would rather have a pool. But other then that we had an awesome week and will be returning to this campsite in the future!!!! A+ campground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dreadful, weird experience

Date:

We are avid campers of over twenty years. Never have we been treated so poorly as we were at Homestead. We felt discriminated against, violated and disrespected. The owners appear, up front, to be family friendly but then suddenly snap and turn into suspicious, controlling, creepy, stalking camp owners. Put it this way, we have never had a campground owner sit on his four wheeler watching our every move both during the day and throughout the night. It felt really weird, and we were so uncomfortable after only four hours there, we decided that we could not complete our stay. This is just NOT how normal, functional campgrounds are supposed to be run.

We arrived at this campground Friday afternoon the sites where very nice we believe this would be a nice campground are age are between 45 and 50 years of age this is the worst campground we ever stayed at in our lives the owner is the most rude stocking controlling person we've ever met another friend of our stayed on a ten site he drove up to our site to bring food and coolers he was told he could not drive his vehicle over to our site. He was told could only have one vehicle per site all around us there was other sites but two to three vehicles on them this point we were concerned what this campground was up to we felt pretty uncomfortable. This guy stalking us on a four wheeler driving back and forth staring across the field to where we were so we decided to book a place at the Bailey campground for the next day proximately nine o'clock that night we have two daughters 13 and 14 years old were on the swings the owner went to them with a flashlight. Go back to the campsite 915 we decide to play hide and seek one of our 11-year-old daughter apparently put her foot over our campsite boundary which was the owner's father picked up a piece of wood on his woodpile told the kids to get the hell out here when we went over to talk to the gentleman he called his son . to have as thrown out of campground his son came over to throw us out of the campground for playing hide and seek we ended up calling the police to have him removed off of site and vice versa a police let us stay till morning he drove his. four wheeler around our site all night . At 530 that morning we got up and start packing up he was sitting in a feel stalking us until we left approximate eight o'clock in the morning we have never seen a campground in my life like this and we have been up and down from Florida to Maine and over ot California my kids were so scared and slept in my bed that night because because of him driving back and forth all night long we highly recommend not to go to this campground

We have been camping for the past 6 years in New England, looking for an ideal spot to enjoy, and maybe one day get a seasonal site. We knew when arriving here last weekend, that this was the place! Perfect location! The beach is close by, the Saco River a few steps away is superb for canoeing. The campsites are a nice size, and I loved the open grassy areas. The owners run a tight ship, but it pays off for the majority of people, us included who love a relaxed, clean environment for their families to enjoy! We do not have children, but commented on how safe and happy the kids appeared. I have already recommended this to others, and have made reservations for next year. Thanks Ruth & Chris for working so hard to make a great campsite!

Great campground for family fun. They have campfire rings at the sites. They will allow campfires after quiet time if you keep it quiet. pet friendly and have farm animals for the kids to see and feed. They pick up the trash at your site and deliver firewood to your site. Big play area for the kids with a ton of "Little Tikes" stuff. Saco river runs along side the campground for swiming and kayaking. Great place to camp and relax.

We have been camping at Homestead for 8 years and have never had a bad experience. Last weekend we had a caravan of 9 rigs and the weekend was really great even though the Sat afternoon thunderstorm slowed us down a bit ( not Ruth or Chris's fault). They are always willing to be helpful to their campers, one of our party had some major problems with his 5th wheel and Chris was right there supplying what he had to help in the fixing process. We recommend Homestead to friends all the time and hope to go there again this summer.

When booking this campsite from looking on line at the photos it looks like a great place to spend a vacation. We were wrong! While sitting by the fire talking in a low tone we were told we were too loud at 10:30pm. After that we were hardly talking at all because one of the gentlemen that works or is the owner was on is bike a couple sites down watching us then when we saw him he left and went to the other side of our site and sat on his bike and watched us...It was very uncomfortable and unpleasant..They do have stalking laws and someone should tell that guy. Anyway I am from a family of 10 campers and about 25-30 relatives that will not go to this uptight lame campground. Never mind the fact that the beach is about 3x3 and the water is merky....If you are thinking of camping here please be advised that you will be watched and you can not speak to each other after about 10:30pm if you are having a fire dont make it too bright we were told our camp fire was too bright. This place was horrible.....

Homestead By the River is this beautiful, friendly, clean, and unique campground right on the river in Biddeford. Unique in the sense that it offers a little something for most everyone. The animals alone delight the young and those not so young.
The river is great for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rafting, or watching. There is a sense of safeness and caring. Ruth, a bit difficult to understand somtimes - she's English speaking - great gal though, Chris, he's a big guy, but don't be afraid (unless it's 3 am), and George, he has a fancy title like "Campground Superintendent, or Facilities Manager", even has some business cards, but he's kinda shy and really would rather be known as "the bottle man". You see, there are "stories" behind what I am saying about Ruth, Chris and George, but the only way you are going to know the "answers" are to come and visit us. We love to watch you drive down the drive on your arrival.

You can fish, swim, canoe, kayak and tube down the Saco. We enjoy being able to pet and feed the farm animals. It's a great campground.

We love the atmosphere at Homestead By The River. Ruth and Chris, owners of the campground, are superb. They will do whatever they can to accommodate their clients' and visitors' needs. The campground is very clean and well managed, and delivery of the local morning newspaper is a bonus. It's a great, well rounded family campground.

We started out camping there with a pop up. The owners helped us get a 5th wheel camper and we are also seasonals.

Even though we only live about 15 minutes from the campsite when you go threw that gate its like a different world......we leave our problems at the gate!!

My family loves it but most of all its a nice safe place for my grandchildren to be.

Although the season is over we now start the count down to next year!!!!

As a seasonal resident at the campground I find the owners very personable and helpful with everything. The sites are clean and well spaced and the facilities are clean and spacious. Although they have limited activities they are usually well attended and a good time is had by everyone. The location of this campground is a good springboard for exploring the surrounding areas. It's close to Portland and other places of interest. I will continue to be a seasonal here as long as I am able to!

we have been seasonal campers for the past 8 years and consider the camp home and ruth, chris and george family. we started off in a pop up camper and have moved on to a big rv. our grandchildren have been camping there since they were born, and we feel blessed to be able to share the camp and the experience with them. it is peaceful, quiet and friendly. we can't recommend homestead more highly.

We have been camping at this campground for a couple years now,it is very nice. Ruth Chris and George are very friendly to people,it is a nice place for kids, they have all kinds of animals to see.there are horses, chickens, llamas, goats, sheep, and they also have a donkey. the facilities are very clean. also have fresh eggs from there own chickens on site. They are always willing to help you if need be.they have good size sites, and always clean.have nice dirt roads for riding bikes.the river is very nice. The first picture is our camper on a pull thru site, the second is a shot of the river, which is a picnic and swimming area.we like it very much and plan to revisit this campground.
