Rude Owners!

A truly terrible experience!
I read the other reviews and thought they were probably isolated personality conflicts. They are not.
Just let me say, if it's a friendly MAINE experience you are looking for, you will be very disappointed by this campground and the treatment you will receive from the new owners. They are arrogant, obnoxious and down right rude to the campers!
I will NOT return.
What a disappointment.

Well I am glad the new owner is paying attention to these reviews. Maybe it will lead to a few needed improvements in the campground. It is unfortunate that one of the reviews, defending the new owner, (flyfishme) resorts to personal attacks rather than the concerns raised by my previous review. This is exactly the tone of response I might expect from the new owner, who can sometimes be rude. I suppose if you cannot attack the message then attack the messenger. The shame is, with just a few improvements this campground could be better than ever!! However, I ask you, is extremely poor security, occasionally very dirty bathrooms, trash that is not collected reliably, and the high cost of bagged ice for campers; nitpicking? If you think it is, then you have the same dismissive attitude as the new owners and you may enjoy camping at Abol.

The only one that could write a review about Mr. Leavitt and
the conditions in the campground would be the new owners.
The only improvements were made in the store and not in the campground. It's a good thing that Mr. Trimm was camping
at abol this summer.

The only person that can write a review like the one that talked about Mr. Leavitt and rated the campground the way they did would be the new owners. If anyone camped at Abol bridge campground this summer can't rate the conditions in campground that good. The only improvements made were in the store and not in the campground. The new owners need to improve on their people skills.

First and foremost, I'm writing this review (firsst one ever) as a 20+ year camper at Abol. Mr. Leavitt's review dated 9/08/11 is one of an old bitter man clinging to the past, and finding everything wrong with future. Yes there are new owners, and their son manages the campground very well. I understand he is buying the place, he works very hard and his positive can do attitude shows...only in America.

I can assure anyone looking to camp here that you won't be disappointed. Mr. Leavitt's comments are a product of "all day and nothing to do" Nitpicker! I believe the new owner's have asked him NOT to return next year, hence his negative review and enough said.

Come and enjoy Abol campground as we have for decades, beautiful scenery, great fishing, and real down to earth people. Many new improvements, Happy Camping!

We have camped here for ten years. This year the campground is under new ownership and management. The new owner is not very friendly and is always dismissive and sometimes rude. The security sucks. The new owner has no clue who are campers and who are not. They do not monitor the entrance at all, even though it is right next to the store. The campground is often left solely to the 18 year old son who is a good kid but is very inexperienced. A few times there was nobody from the campground on the property. The campground generator hours have been shortened from 5AM - 11PM to 6 AM - 9 PM. This means no lights and water in the bathroom between 9PM and 6AM. The camper's onsite generator hours are now 8AM to 8PM (old hours 10:30AM to 6PM). No more quiet time to match the scenery. When the only maintenance man has a day off the trash is not picked up and the bathrooms are not cleaned. The campground ran out of bathroom supplies several times. The limited bathroom facilities are now open to non-campers. There were non campers driving and walking through the campground on a regular basis. The ice which is made onsite has doubled in price to $3 a bag, gouging tenter's who live out of coolers. We have camped here for 4-5 weeks a year for ten years. Over the years we have developed friendships with many of the seasonal and regular campers. Many of these people are rethinking their return. The new owner has little regard for the camper. We will not return!!

Worst experience ever. I, a solo female traveler in my late 20s, stopped here one afternoon thinking I might camp if the facilities seemed nice. But an older male (the owner?) followed me to the bathroom, told me I had to pay before I peed, and then called me an unspeakable name (it begins with a 'C'!) when I said I'd just be on my way. Totally shocking! People in Maine are usually so nice, but I'd avoid this place at all costs.

Abol Bridge Campground was a family tradition for years while visiting the North Maine Woods! Great scenery and access to many trails and sights, Art and Linda's hospitality, and the Whippowills! Can't forget the Whippowill's!

Since I've moved to the Great North Woods of New Hampshire (Pittsburg) we haven't been back but I miss the Penobscot River Corridor and the tenting life especially at Abol Bridge Campground and Abol Pines.
