This camp is very beautiful, and as long as you don't need any help or have any problems with amenities, you will be set. Apparently customer service is not their forte'. The staff is rude. When we checked in the lady at the counter was confrontational, and we called her out on it. We got to our cabin and there was ash in the fire pit up to the brim and it was surrounded by 4 in high poison oak, the trash barrel next to our cabin was filled to the max. There were red wasp and yellow jackets like a plague. We arrived on Thursday and were warned by neighbors that the wasp thing was a little creepy. We left to run errands and by the time we got back it was dark and the wasp were gone. The next morning I noticed that a man kept driving thru the park as if patrolling so I flagged him down and asked him if he worked for the camp, he said he did but "not today". In spite of that I asked him if he knew how we could get our fire ring cleaned out because it seemed unsafe for the ash to be that high, he said I should contact the front desk and also mentioned that the new cabins that were being built were more important to management than the cabins they already have.
15 minutes later a lady on a golf cart with the not on the job today man pulled up to a recently vacated cabin. Having been in customer service most of my adult life, I expected her to stop by my cabin and say hi, and see if we were having any problems. Call me crazy, she didn't. I flagged her down and asked if the man had mentioned to her that we wanted our fire pit cleaned and she said yes, but we needed to call the office. While she was there I mentioned the poison oak around the fire pit and she told me that it is Spring Break and they are busy. She also mentioned that it was their first busy week since last summer and they weren't prepared. Really? Can you imagine Walmart explaining to you that they aren't prepared for the Christmas rush the day after Thanksgiving? Hire some extra staff or work during the winter. Don't make your problem be my problem.
So I called the office, who do I get but the same woman, I'm like, "Are you the lady on the golf cart" she said, "Yes I am" Unbelievable. I told her that we wanted to ck out one day early, the next day, because the wasp were now swarming again, they were in the cabin. It was precarious outside the cabin with the amount of wasp and generally speaking, they were exhausting me on my vacation. She said that we could leave but that they would not refund us for the following days stay. She said that we should expect wasp to be in the log cabin because after all, "it is a log cabin".
Someone did come down and clean out the fire pits at all of the cabins after that call. Another man also showed up. He was a well built older man, with the chest of a proud peacock swelled out. He walked onto our porch, did not introduce himself, and just sorta "eyed" the place. I asked him who he was and he said that it didn't matter, he was there to check the place out, and that was all that should be important. Yep, by now I was aghast by the rudeness of the staff. I told him that I was very disappointed in the staff as a whole for making me work so hard to get things taken care of that should be taken care of (3 nights for for 4 people cost $400, I'm not talking about an $8 camping spot). I told him that I wanted to leave and get a refund for the next day, I mentioned that the idea of a wasp crawling into my bed was unnerving, I pulled him into the cabin and showed him all the uncaulked places that the wasp were coming in from (very obvious). He pointed to a picnic table at the next campsite where one lone soda can was perched and blamed the wasp problem on the campers who don't properly dispose of their trash. "The wasp are drawn to the sugar." While we are standing there in a swarm of wasp, he actually reached up and knocked one off of me. I told him it was more likely that it was because the trash was not being properly maintained.
Finally, I told him that I had read some reviews and the 2 I read said the staff was rude, I mention that I am going to post one as well. About that time he tells me that if I am so unhappy I should pack my stuff up and leave, and by the way, he doesn't appreciate the threat about a review. I ask him "who are you to tell me this", and he says, "I'm the owner of this property" I'm like, really, you couldn't tell me that 10 minutes ago. He told me it was none of my business, and he thought that I was just getting a good jolly out of griping about the amenities and he was tired of hearing me talk. (that made 2 of us) I still can't figure out why he wouldn't have just said that to start out with, and then apologized that things weren't as they should have been, and then tried to make me feel like he cared.
We didn't check out that day because all of this happened before 12 noon and we had an appointment w a fishing guide service. We didn't have time to pack up and leave.
When we came back from fishing beautiful Lake Conroe, our camp neighbors told us that the office had sprayed for wasp.
We left the following morning, one day early. We stopped by the office and turned in our remote control and parking pass. I wasn't even going to write this review. We got home last night. Today at 12:30 (check out time is eleven), a very rude lady called and asked, "if we were going to be checking out soon". When informed that we left yesterday she said "no one made note of it" and hung up. Somethings never change
The miniature golf is a joke and the hot tub was filthy.
