Too Many Problems

Date:

Myself and 12 other people stayed there 5/25-5/28. It is a fairly small campground with mostly RV space. We had a large site which was located in a great spot close to the lake and pool. We had a number of issues during our stay which were not resolved by the owner. We had a neighbor stealing electricity and water and the neighbor also got into a fist fight with a fellow camper all while the owner did nothing. The same camper stole all our liquor the night of the screaming match/fist fight. The pool was scheduled to open on Saturday but never did. The beach on the lake was clean, however, the lake its self was not. There was overgrown seaweed, biting fish, leeches, and the lake was not treated with chemicals as stated by the owner. The electricity went out for several hours on Saturday and the restrooms were not clean. There were bugs in the sinks, showers, feces on the toilets, a broken toilet. I would not stay there again.

The owner seemed like a great guy and was extremely helpfull when we needed wood and water at 10pm.... and a great sport when my 3 yr old decided to rename him for the duration of our trip ;) You will need .25 for a shower , and the bathrooms get A LOT of use. The kids loved playing in the lake and catching frogs/tadpoles. The campground was completely jammed pack and you couldn't really get a feel for how big some of the other types of sites were, some areas had a sardine feel to them. We are hoping that once they get established, that they will upgrade the playgrounds. The sat and sun night dance was a Blast! What a great way to wear out the kids...young and old;) A family friendly party place, everyone seemed kind and social. sometimes when camping you lose track of time so we loved how they would announce activites prior by golf cart.

Amzing place to camp and we will most definitely go back!!!!!!!!

Date:

July 6, 2011

We stayed here for the 4th of July and had an excellent time. The people who work here are exceptionally friendly and they do a FANTASTIC JOB maintaining the campground. they are always working to keep the facilities clean and have lots of fun things for the children to do. They had a Dj both nights which was lots of fun and our lil one really enjoyed it. On our last evening the owner was driving around checking out the campers and making sure everything was settled down for quite time and we had ran out of wood for our fire and the store/office was closed and we told him and he went and got some wood for us and then started our fire up for us at 12:07 AM. Then we tried to pay for our bundle of wood that he delivered to us and he refuse to take the money. This is a fantastic place to go for a weekend getaway with your family. We would most definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to have a good time. We will never camp anywhere besides Hi-Tide again!!!!! The owners of this place take pride in their campground and dont look at it as they are taking your money they go above and beyond to make sure you have a great time. They also have a small charge for the showers and the pool and mini golf but this eliminated the young children of the campground to run around destroying and taking over things when people are trying to use it I feel this is an excellent perk to keep the campground neat and maintained 5 star service

NEW OWNERS

Date:

July 4, 2011

As I sit here typing, my family is home on July 4th early because this place was an absolute disaster. The new owners here are rude, inconsiderate and outright mean. We have been a patron of this campground for many years. We had high expectations of the new ownership but it was so BAD we left and are now going to finish the 4th off at home.

Look at what happened to us:

- When we arrived there were hidden fees including guest parking fees, pool fees now and the firewood was insane. 3x's higher than any place our family has ever been to. We were yelled at by the owner when he came to our site and we put some cardboard in the fire to save some money. He drove up like a police squad with 2 people in it harassing everyone. This happen to us over 8 times in 3 days just at our tent.

- Every tent site had barely any grass and it was always muddy because of the water spikets. The ground was so hard you couldn't even sink the metal of your tent to the ground.

- The bathrooms were sick. I took pictures of this. NO hot water, NO towels, muddy floors and on top of it you had to pay .25 for a shower. The mirrors were so bad you cant see your face in them and there is feces and urine puddles everywhere. It wasnt just oen day, every single day. We drove 6.5 miles to a Caseys Gas station in Leland, IL. because the kids would not go #2 in that facility. The lady at the gas station even told us we weren't the only ones coming in because of that place.

- The lake is bad. I never seen it so green before. They have nothing making the water filter or move for health standards. They took out many of the floating objects they had last time we were there too. NO LIFEGUARDS whatsoever. Not even at the pool.

- A fellow camping site near us said he stopped over by them and yelled at them for playing guitar too loud. It was 8pm and their kid was playing an acoustic guitar with all the neighbors listening.

- By day 3 there were well over 8 camp sites next to us that got up and left, (even demanded a refund) because of this new management. Im sure I will not be the only one writing this review here or somewhere else.

- The bottom line is that I spent my fourth of July writing this email to tell everyone about how BAD this. My kids are sad and my entire family of 6 and friends we had (a total of 20 people) spent alot of money for one bad experience. TRUST me, its not worth it here...

An "unhapy camper" :(

Enjoyed my stay!!!! Hi-Tide has literally everything to keep everyone in the family busy. A large store stocked with everything and anything you may need or have forgotten! Equipped with free wireless internet and a laundry mat. They also have tent sites and cabins. The large store provides a hang out for those rainy days with an indoor movie theater, arcade, snack shop, craft, and game room. An outdoor pool, along with a unique 2 acre swimming pond! The pond has everything to keep the entire family entertained. A sandy beach, paddle boats, log roller, water trampoline, water volleyball court, a Saturn blow up toy, water teeter totters, and a lounger for tanning or relaxing. The other half of the pond has a fishing area with a large pier. The campground has sites facing a beautiful creek as well. There are also peddle bikes/carts for the kids to rent. The campground also has basketball courts and a sand volleyball court. This campground literally has everything. Such a great place to camp. The new owners as of July 2010 have done so much to improve the campground. Such a big change!!! Thanks for everything Chris and Virginia, we will be back!

over grown & buggy

This campground needs alot of work, the place is run by teenagers. The vegatation is over grown, very bad mosquito problem. The sites are very narrow and large mature trees make it difficult to navigate into your site. The sites are not level at all. The sewer system is the worse, with your neighbors sewer hose running across your site to connect to the sewer by your camper. There is a fee for everything, even to use the pool. The pool is open to the public , and they walk around the campground also. They have a swimming lake but it is real murky and needs work. The bathrooms are dirty and require quarters for a shower. I will not be back, along with a couple of other campers I talked to.

What these two unhappy previous campers did not realize is the owners (Married Couple) can at times be hard to deal with in that they like to keep the "rift-raft" out! In addition to this, the wife had passed away early in 2007 so it is obvious the husband is still grieving for the loss of his wife of 40 plus years.

I have a seasonal site (RV) at this location and have been camping there for the past 5 years. The "grouch" these campers may have been referring to is the "helper" who patrols the roads after nightfall (usually around quiet time of 11pm). He is not the owner. True, he can use some "brushing up" on his people skills but the quiet time past 11pm is for the benefit of all of us.

Overall, we have been very happy at this campground. We look at this place as our second home, everyone looks out for one another. It's not as big as some of the other campgrounds in the area and is a nice place to be on the weenends. There is Bingo on Saturdays, movie night for the kiddies on Saturday nights, pool, lake for swimming with climbing toys, a creek for fishing that runs in back of the site, go karts, mini golf, an arcade, etc.

It's a good place to go and have fun with your family.....just follow some basic rules and all with enjoy themselves!

The owners are not the easiest to work with, from the start we had a problem. I called 10 days in advance to reserve2 sites, called back 3 days later to add 1 more site. When we got there, the only had reservations they had were for the original 2 sites, they worked thru that for us and we had 3 sites close to each other. we had 4 tents between 3 sites, all around one fire ring, used the site away from the other 2 as parking, so, that all worked out ok.
The first night we all went to sleep around 12:30-1am, and we all started to say goodnight like they used to on the Waltons, just goofing off, Goondnight Johnboy and the like, the owner was on his rounds and told us to be quiet and "don't make me come back here". Well, it's not like we were yelling at each other, well, whatever...
All was well and good till Saturday night, a van full of teens (6 boys and 1 girl)and a Mom, I think?, got there late on Saturday, stayed up all night, yelling, hollering, and carring on, throwing tennis balls all over the camp grounds, hitting tents and campers, we the owner was nowhere to be found that night, thet got asked to leave @8am, too late, we won't go back. He is grouchy...

We have only gone back because we come from iowa and indiana and meet in the middle and have a hard time finding campgrounds that have group camping for 8 families together. They expected our group of close to 50 people to all use one fire ring to cook, said most campers have gone to bringing a grill to cook on rather than an open fire. they are very difficult people to deal with, very bitter and grouchy.
