We looked forward to going camping on Lake Shelbyville. We read their website and were excited to camp in the mature trees like the site says: "You will feel relaxed and stress-free in our oasis of mature trees and water". When we pulled onto the property, my son said "Dad, I dont think we are going to have much fun". It was very hot that weekend. When we pulled up to the office, we were greeted by an unfriendly older lady. We were looking at the campground and they have several ornamental trees. I asked the lady if we would be staying in the shade and she said we would have partial shade most of the day. I was satisfied with that. When we pulled to our site, we were under a dead cedar tree. There were NO mature trees. We would be in full sun the whole week. All the mature trees site were taken by the campers who rent lots. So, there are no shaded sites available to those who have campers who wont be there long term. We went back to the lady and she said that was all she had. We expressed to her this is not what we had in mind or what their site says. She called the "boss" after much prodding and she told her "we were hot and wanted our money back". That is not what we said. All we wanted was to be in the mature trees like camping is suppose to be. She finally found two spots where we could go and it was in the mature trees.
Onto the pool. We were harrassed there also. We had a raft the kids wanted to take to the pool and we were run out of there because they have a "no raft" policy.
Our children brought their bicycles and they threw them down by the bike rack. The lady quickly told us that if we were going to allow our kids to ride their bikes, they had to use the bike rack. The constantly drove around our site like they were looking for something to yell at us about.
Our camper had a minor break down. We called a repair man to come to the site to fix it. He wasnt there for 5 minutes when the older lady came to us and told him he would have to move the car as it was against their policy. This man was a local and said he hated the Robin Hood Woods Campground. He said we picked the worst one. There are much better campgrounds to choose from.
When we were leaving, we had to dump our sewage. That was the most disgusting sewer site I have ever seen. It was so full we thought our sewage was going to overflow it. Before dumping, we went back to the office where we spoke with the woman owner. The door was locked and I was waiting patiently as it was near opening time. She unlocked the door and I stepped in with my kids in tow. They had the door cracked open and she quickly yelled at them to "SHUT THE DOOR". I politely mentioned to them that their tank looked like it was full. I said I didnt want to dump sewage all over the ground. She said that is the normal way it is suppose to look. Well, I guess if the poop tank is normally full to the rim, then that is normal for them. We had to physically put our hose in raw sewage. I have never seen that before. It was very dirty and you felt you needed to shower after using that "service". That is unacceptable.
Needless to say, we will never go back. It is their policy to harrass you the whole time. We have never been treated as badly as we were treated by them. We have very small children and dont drink and have all night parties. If you want to go camping on Lake Shelbyville, stay at an Army Corp site. We learned our lesson.
