My husband and I along with a group of 6 friends booked three campsites at Crawford Notch Campground in Bartlett, NH. We had the WORST experience with management and will never go back. It is a real shame because the campground itself is beautiful. The owner of the campground had it in for our group from the start. The first night (9/12/08) we were all hanging out in one site and the owner came over to talk to us. He told us we were being too loud, that we needed to "shut it down" and continually reminded us that we would "be kicked out". We didnt realize what time it was, apologized and all went to bed. We werent by any means trying to cause trouble!
The next day, we watched him continually drive past our camp site in his golf cart. He never stopped but watched us intently. If nothing else, that was creepy. Nobody pays to go camping to be watched like a hawk. We werent doing anything other than having fun with our friends. They should make a change to their rules to state that exact thing, You will be watched and kicked out if you have TOO much fun with your fellow campers!
Our friends were all together at one campsite playing cards. At 7:20PM ( still light out), the owner came up to our campsite and told us that we "obviously werent taking them seriously-you guys need to shut it down, youre loud and I will kick you out" We asked him, Whats the problem? We were obviously complying with quiet hours (Quiet hours are from 10PM to 7AM at this campground). He repeated that we were too loud so we asked him what time quiet hours are, he said 10PM so we asked what time it was now, he said 7:30PM! We told him that we would be completely quiet at 10PM. My group and I were not being unruly, unreasonable or crazy; we were just a group of 4 married couples enjoying a kid free weekend together. At about 9:45PM that night, we were sitting around the fire and one of the husbands was playing guitar and singing softly! We were getting ready to call it a night when 2 NH State Troopers came and told us that the owner was kicking us out and that we had leave. The majority of our group was in no condition to drive! Again, we knew we were to be in the tents by quite time 10:00PM. We had to pack up 3 campsites in the dark and the ones who were able to drive had to shuttle people to another campground. We all lived about 2 hours away and of course no cell phone reception to call anybody. The troopers were extremely nice and made the experience a little easier to swallow. Unfortunately, the owner of this campground is the rudest, most unreasonable man with a Neapolitan complex I've ever encountered. I will never go back to this campground and neither will anyone I know, I will make darn sure of that.
