We LOVE bong. One of our favorite places to camp. Even though no water at sites!
Spotlessly clean HOT showers, lovely surroundings, family and pet freindly. Lots of nature hiking paths. Peaceful and quiet.
Bliss!

state park campground in prairie setting

Date:

May 28, 2006

Bong was originally going to be an AF base but after land was bought and cleared and the runway leveled & graveled, the govt changed its mind. After many years it became a state rec. area, with a day use area frequented by hunters & hunting dog trainers, rocketry and model plane enthusiasts, and off-roaders, and a small no-hookup CG. About 15 years ago several new CG loops were constructed, one with elec. hookups (20/30 amp) and shower buildings, and the park has grown in popularity. Sites are spacious, many with native-plant shrubbery in between for privacy; a few have sweeping views of the prairie. Hiking/riding trails are near the CG; there is a small visitor center offering ranger programs on weekends. We enjoy camping here several times a season.
