Family Style… Indian Head is a family style campground located outside of Bloomsburg, on the banks of the Susquehanna River, at the Southern edge of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Columbia County. We are about mid-way between Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton, and about 3 miles from Interstate-80, Exit #232.

Early Roots… Indian Head was once part of a 210 acre plot of ground, the ownership of which can be traced back to the latter part of the 1700’s. Portions of the land were sold to later become the town of Rupert. The land along the river bank was once a prosperous vegetable farm, with corn still being grown on a portion of it today.

Native American Heritage… The history of the land is inexorably linked to the Native Americans that once lived here over a period of many centuries. Indian Head Campground gets its unique name from a well known local landmark, a natural rock formation along Route #42 that bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the original inhabitants of this land. There are many reminders of the Native Americans that are occasionally found at the campground, as a testament to their heritage and their skill in utilizing the gifts of nature to survive a sometimes harsh environment.

3 mi from I-80, Ex 232, Rt 42 S, follow signs to campground This is a photograph of directions as they appear in our brochure. From Interstate-80, take the Buckhorn Exit #232. Follow Route #42 South about 3 miles to the campground. Directional signs are found at major turns. You will be headed towards Catawissa on Route #42 South, and upon entering the town of Rupert, there will be a fire station on your right. Turn left a few hundred feed past the station, cross over the railroad tracks, and follow the road around to the right. We are located on the left at the stop sign and our store is the building on the left at the entrance. Stop there for assistance. Going back to Interstate-80 requires that you turn to the right as you leave the campground, go past the covered bridge and follow the road across the railroad tracks, back to Route #42. Turn right onto Route #42, and follow the signs back to I-80. Coming from Catawissa on Route #42 North, take the first right turn after you enter Rupert. Coming from Danville on Route #11 North, follow the signs for Route #42 South, just before entering Bloomsburg.
