This is a dump!

Where do you want me to begin! We camped there this weekend with family. First the creek is a beautiful area if the garbage and old run down campers were cleaned and washed and the land well taken care of, There were less than a handful of sites that had nice yards and camper. Second, the site are so tight together we had to ask the campers next door to move there truck just to back into the site. There were more than a few loud parties going on that beer bottle and liquor bottles were scattered all over the place. The worst was, if you have to use the bathroom I suggest you hold it until you get home if you don't own a camper. PLUS they charge you 25 cents for 6 mins for using the shower. Let's go to the dumpster, over flowing and disgusting. Last, the owners are no where to be found until you call them on the phone. NO CONTROL over anything going on. Please please don't bring you kids, who knows what the will end up with when you go home. Never again will we camp there and we will be telling all our friends along with ratings this campsite as the poorest we have ever been too.

Amazing Place

Date:

June 8, 2012

I have been camping at Sugarcreek for 5 years now. I am from Rochester, NY and love having Sugarcreek just a little more than an hour away from me. I have stayed in a few different sites over the years including site X and the “Front of the Hill”. I am a tent camper and nature lover and I would have to rank this place number one in New York State compared to all the rest I have visited and I have been to quite a few.
Let me try to point out some of the highlights of Amazing campground.

Waterfalls – I think, outside of the NYS operated Watkins Glen and Stony Brook parks (where you are not allowed and are discouraged to hike or swim in the actual creeks and falls) they hold the record for the most waterfalls in their gorge, especially for a privately owned campground. In my opinion there are a lot more than five falls stated on the web site. Considering all sizes, there are more like 30 and are all completely accessible for you to enjoy. Even though dogs are not allowed in the gorge, they are very pet friendly at the campgrounds and there are many other places dogs can enjoy.

Nature – Dragonflies, Butterflies, Fish, Deer, Birds, Rabbits, Snakes, Chipmunks, Salamanders, Frogs, Turtles, Beaver and mink are just some of the plentiful and diverse wild life you will witness here. Your kids will have a blast exploring and encountering the wildlife here as well as yourselves.

Birding – An amazing variety of birds a beginner or experience birder to enjoy. Either on the campgrounds or along Poags Hole road, some of the species I have seen and photographed are Waxwings, Fly Catchers, Phoebes, Buntings, Oriels, Blackbirds, Catbirds, Swallows, Titmice, Chickadees, Tanagers, Thrushes, Redstarts, Vireos, Woodpeckers and warblers galore including yellow, black and white, Yellow-throat, Yellow-rumped, Chestnut-sided and Blue-winged. Birds of Prey roam the skies as well.

Sites – A wide variety of sites are available, of course some are better than others, depending on what you like and what your needs are. I strongly suggest if you are planning your first trip there, to visit just for the day and see what sites you would like yourself and check out the waterfalls too! I have my favorites and I’m not giving up that info ;^)

Staff – Very nice and friendly people, always working hard to meet your needs and keep the place as enjoyable as they can for all. If you have any questions, a concerns or suggestions, they are very receptive and their ears are always open. The owners have been nothing but the nicest to me and everyone around me. I never see anyone camping without a smile on there face whenever I camp at Sugarcreek. We are all “Happy Campers”!

Price – Cheap, just check out their rates… http://www.sugarcreekglencampground.com/campingrates.htm No extra fees or 2 day minimums on most weekends, unlike most other places like NYS campgrounds. Ice, wood, Supplies? All are available and reasonably priced right at the camp store.

Area Attractions – Stony Brook and Letchworth State Parks. You only have to pay one admission to visit both in one day. There are Balloon Launches on both Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends in Dansville and Letchworth. Check out these sites for more information:

Silver Lake Drive-Inn is a really cool place as well to get some good food and see a double feature. The have a grill restaurant, a pizza parlor and an amazing ice cream shop.
A nice miniature golf course, an arcade, and other kids’ entertainment and activities are a bonus too. This place is immaculate. It’s a little bit of a drive but well worth it.

Many other festivals and other cool places are within reach of Sugarcreek, just do a little web search to find something fun and exciting in the area.

I have always had a great experience camping at Sugarcreek and everyone I know; who has been with me or has visited has had an amazing time. It has been one of my best kept secrets until now and will surely become yours when you take your first trip to Sugarcreek Glen Campground. See you there!
