Don't Complain - The owner will call the police and have you removed

My family and I booked the Labor Day weekend at Merry Meadows Campground (formerly Morris Meadows) in Freeland, Maryland for Labor Day Weekend. Their website said their pool was opened every day up to Labor Day. We decided to make a long weekend and arrive on Thursday Night so we could have 3 solid days of pool time. When we arrive, our site is full of grass savings. I then her from the Life guard on Friday Morning that the pool will be closed because all the Lifeguards went back to school. She was only there for a few hours to clean it. I visited the registration desk at 11am and spoke with Lorraine. When I complained she slammed a complaint form down and told me to fill it out. I also voiced that I was upset that all the other amenities such as golf, race cars, driving range were closed too. I also discovered that exercise classes that I was excited about throughout the weekend were also cancelled. I requested to speak with the Manager/Owner. She attempted to call but no answer. I asked Lorraine to make sure the owner knew I wanted to speak with her and then asked for a rake to be dropped off at the site so grass shavings could be cleaned up. 3 hours later a “part owner” yet not willing to accept the responsibility of ownership arrive to clean up the grass. We had a conversation about my displeasure with the above and instead of discussing the issues he wanted to tell me some long story about how his Brother is suing him over the business because he and Lois took it from him. No concern for my displeasure was ever shown. No apology was made. No discussion on how they can make it right. The pool and activities remained closed and cancelled for the remainder of the day. We also missed out on taking the children for ice cream because they chose to close the snack bar at 8:30pm rather than the posted 9:00PM closing time. On Saturday at 12 noon, I walk the children to the pool. The lifeguard sends us away to walk back to the RV to find our receipt and show proof we are allowed in the pool. We were never told we needed to provide proof. I find the receipt, take it to the pool and gain entry. I then take a lounge chair and move it a total of 3-4 feet so it would be in the sun and was promptly informed by the Lifeguard that I could not move the lounge chair and if I wanted to be in the sun I would need to bring my own chair or lay on the grass. While at the pool I met a season pass holder who was not camping. I told her that I was waiting to hear from the owner and she pointed her out to me. She was judging golf tournament. I waiting until it was over and approached the owner. I explained I had requested to speak with her and had not heard from her. She cut me off by saying that she was aware that I had complaints and she did not want to talk to me until Monday because she was too busy. I told her this was unacceptable to ignore my request for 4 days. I told her my displeasure about the pool be closed on Friday and she cut me off again by telling me that I am ruining my own vacation by allowing their lack of service to upset me. This is ridiculous! She then cut me off AGAIN and asked if I wanted my money back. I tried to explain that this was not about the money but the fact that we chose to go there because of the amenities advertised on her website and the fact that they were not providing the product represented on the website. Se then put her golf cart in reverse, almost hitting me, turned on the road and left me there. I yelled out that if she wasn’t going to listen to me I’ll just post it on Social Media. Then as she drove away I said that I do want my money back. I return to my camper and started making the children lunch. Then, my Husband enters the camper to inform me that the police are here and the owner is kicking us out of campground. I walked out and asked the police why were we being kicked out because we had done nothing illegal and all I did was complain. She informed us this did not matter and that it was private property and they had to escort us out because she requested. She only gave us 1 hour to vacate which was not enough to properly clean, packed and get everything ready to leave. Because I complained this owner kicked us out. We had to leave our family behind and finish the holiday weekend at home. I was refunded only the days that I was kicked out and not the full weekend she offered in our conversation.

The female manager at Morris Meadows is absolutely the rudest, insulting person I have ever experienced. The "rules" (or those she chooses to reinterpret) are antiquated and NOT customer-friendly.

It was my first time to Morris Meadows and had made a reservation 2 weeks in advance. On the phone, I was told that they didn't accept 1-night reservations, so I booked 2 nights for a tent site. The fees were reasonable... $32 per night for a site with a pavilion...and you have to send in 1 night's deposit up front...So I went ahead and booked both nights, even though we really only wanted one night.

I told the person taking the reservation that it would be 3 adults and 3 kids, plus 2 dogs. She said that was fine, but we would have to pay an extra $5 per night for the "extra adult." No problem. Especially since we were going on a "family value" weekend which allowed for a 15% discount AND up to two adults & 4 kids included in the fee(rather than the usual 2 adults/2 kids.)

I went on Friday with my daughter and our dog. When we checked in, they miscalculated the remaining balance and I had to reiterate what I was told on the phone - after some back-and-forth, they got it, and I paid the remaining balance that I had been quoted on the phone when I made the reservation.

My friends couldn't come Friday night, so they arrived Saturday around 5pm. The female manager told them that they would have to pay an additional $10 per person (for 4 of them.) They called me and I had to come down from my tent site to the office. I explained to the manager what I was told, that everything was paid...except the "extra adult fee" and she not only insinuated that we were all a bunch of liars, she insisted that we pay extra for the other adults/kids. I told her that we were supposed to pay an additional $10 for 1 extra adult and that we had gotten a 15% discount. She had conveniently forgotten that a "family value weekend" INCLUDES UP TO FOUR CHILDREN.

After reviewing the registration paperwork that I had filled out the day before upon arrival, she insisted that because I had NOT put my friends down on the paperwork when I checked in that they were considered "guests" and would be charged $10 per person per night. (I had not put their names down because they had not arrived yet!) She said that if they didn't arrive WITH me on Friday then they were considered guests. I said that they COULDN'T come with me on Friday night, but that I had paid for the site for two days for ALL 6 of us. She kept insisting that they are considered "guests" and therefore we had to pay extra for them. So even though four of the six of us used their facilities for a full day less than we paid for, we were supposed to pay MORE??
After MUCH back and forth, and the most obnoxious, condescending attitude I have had the displeasure of experiencing, and with her snarking "I'M the manager, by the way!" I had her call the owner's daughter, who allowed us to proceed as we had been originally told on the phone. HOWEVER, the manager was obviously angry, and charged my friends a $20 fee for a gate-card which is supposed to only be $10. She seemed hell-bent on sticking it to us somehow. I had even mentioned that this was our first time there... you would think that a manager of an establishment like that would want a great experience for all of her customers...and especially TWO NEW families!
After my friends paid the fees for the extra adult and gate-card, she asked if they had brought a pet, and they said yes. She said that as "guests" they were NOT allowed to bring in a dog. I reiterated for the umpteeth time that they were not "Guests" but were on the ORIGINAL REGISTRATION...That I had included ALL OF THEM when I first called 2 weeks before - and that I wasn't trying to get anything by them! It was all up front - out in the open! She proceeded to call the owner's daughter back AGAIN and inquired about the dog being allowed. Each time she called the owner's daughter, she kept telling her biased view-point, that "NOW these GUESTS want to bring in their dog!" I kept saying "they're not guests! They were on the original registration TWO WEEKS AGO."

The owner's daughter consented to allowing them to bring in their dog...and we finally got out of the office and to our campsite.

I hate to give such a poor rating, because the campground itself is fine... lots of amenities, beautiful field/playground for the kids, etc. But the manager there soured it for me and for my friends, and I'm sure whoever they tell...

My family and I really really enjoyed ourselves this past summer and fall when we visited Morris Meadows. Camping is for spending time with your family and we all really connected during our vacations. Morris Meadows allowed us the oppurtunity to take a hike together, have a picnic, and use our imaginations to have a good time . We played mini golf and spent time out in their ballfied playing catch. We attended a few of their activities, which were fun, but were more excited to get back to our campsite to have a campfire and roast marshmallows.
Morris Meadows provided a great family atmosphere. The staff does a great job regulating the alcohol consumption. Its a shame that adults bring their children camping then party with their adult friends.
The scenary was awesome, especially during the fall. And the bathrooms were clean. We were surprised that there was a full functioning snack shack/restaurant.
We would definitaly recommend Morris Meadows to families that want to spend family time together.

Not FUN at all.

Not enough activities for kids. Staff was not very friendly. No tents allowed anywhere but tent area. (All other campgrounds I have ever gone to allow a tent on your site.) Charging more if a family has more than 2 kids is crazy. and Double the price for a Holiday weekend for visitors is crazy also. and $10.00 for a visitor a day is way out of the range other campgrounds charge. and one lady running Bingo was the worst, she had to collect the money, call the numbers, i got sick of waiting so i quit playing. and the "rule" of no food or drinks in the pool area, unless you buy them from the snack shop is ridiculas. All in all it was not a "fun" camping weekend, and we will not be camping there again, nor will the other 9 families we were with. Sorry,,but there are way too many other campgrounds to go to. I refuse to go where i dont feel welcomed. (only good thing was the bathrooms were clean)
