The campsite was gorgeous dont get me wrong, but the service we recieved from the owners was horrible. they were rude from the begining when we checked in, like we were bothering them. extremely short with us when we asked how to get to our site. bought a $4 bundle of firewood (8 tiny pieces) and waited TWO hours for it to get dropped off. which i thought was ridicilous. there was NOT a beach which we specifically asked about when we called, so we had to drive to a different beach to be able to enjoy the water. the one bathroom was nice, the other looked like a bathroom at a campsite, wasnt expecting more tho. our neighbors told us they called and asked about the bad reviews and his response was "if you believe everything you read on the internet, your just plain stupid" how would you even THINK thats okay to talk to a paying customer? a person in general. it was a beautiful location, couldnt get any prettier than the water there, but i will definately find a new place to go.

I don't care about some of the reviews I've been reading. My family has been at Dubay Shores for about 4 years now. We came for a weekend and never left. The owners have been helpful to us and have never been "rude". It fact I think they have been more than understanding with us. We had some situations happen while we were here and have never been hassled. In all defense of the Stanek family, it's not easy for only 3-4 people to maintain a campground of this size. It is not a 5 star resort nor do they claim it to be. There is no pool and I don't care about that. The lake is beautiful and there is a beach when the river level is not overly high. There have been many improvements since we have been here. The boat launch has been redone, there are more and new floating docks, the main bathrooms have been completely redone and various other small things like the beach area being improved and all the new handmade wooden furniture around. Yes, ok John can come across as a real jerk. But he has to maintain that attitude with people because he has to deal with alot of weekend "jerks". I really like that the "quiet rule" is enforced around here and the place is patrolled at night here on weekends. We came from a campground where the owners were just drunks that spent all their time in the campground bar and argued. Ask them to quiet down a party and they joined it. There were no rules after a while. We left after someone was shot there. BuBay Shores may not be fancy but it's nice, quiet and I like it here.

RUDE OWNER!!

Date:

June 23, 2009

We had booked a campsite and then I read some of the reviews and decided to look around for a different camp ground. I called on Monday to cancel for the following weekend and then I noticed my debit card was charged $10 from the campground. I then emailed the owner asking why I was charged and I said I did not appreciate being charged without my knowledge, PLUS I was told at the time of the reservation there was no cancelation fee. The owner then called me and said who he was and then said "what's your problem?" I told him my concern and he said it was an administrative fee for canceling with less then 7 days notice. I said I was told there was no cancelation fee and he called me a liar. How RUDE! I then said I see the reviews are true about him being rude and he was such a jerk to me so I hung up. I would not reccomend anyone dealing with this man, he was a rude jerk!!

This campground sucks! The staff are so rude and try to rip you off! Looks more like a trashy trailer park that's decreasing the value of all the lake homes around the area. Even get the trashy trailer park attitude was included by the owners. One of the owners rides around on an ATV because he is too lazy to walk up to you. He tries to tell people what to do. Their attitude is this is my campground so you do as I say, or get off my private property! Beware! There are many other places to stay that are so much nicer!

Only one bathroom, which was located on the opposite end of the campground. Playground equipment old and not well taken care of. No water for those who are in a tent, had to walk up to the bathrooms to get water. No beach, had to drive to another park for the kids to play at a beach. The biggest complaint was the person who "patrolled" the campground. He was extremely rude to everyone in my camping party (there were about 18 of us). He rode around on a golf cart constantly finding something to "scold" us for. We did not feel welcome. Most of the people at the campground were semi-permanent residents there. We all felt we were treated like intruders. The owners also double booked our campsites, yet still charged us the full price. Definitely will NEVER go back - there are nicer campgrounds near by. We maybe could have overlooked everything else, but the treatment we received from the staff was unacceptable.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND CAMPING AT THIS CAMPGROUND. The owners are VERY RUDE. They harass you and try to charge you for everthing they can.

I had the worst experience camping at Lake Dubay Shores this 4th of July. The owners continued to harass us for not having our sticker in our cars. We would travel to town and take the sticker down and within minutes of arriving back at camp, they would approach us and in a RUDE manner, ask us why we don't have it showing in our cars. They charge $30 a night to camp BUT that doesn't include the cost to launch your boat! If you have any guests that are just visiting for a few hours (not using any of the facilities), they also want to charge for that too. There are definitely better places to stay at and not be harassed like we were.

Campground is right next to a major highway and train. So you constantly hear car traffic and trains coming through. It is very over crowded and many sites do not have shade. Staying here is very, very costly. You will end up paying for everything little thing. You must pay for a permit for everything little thing. And if you don't, they have a park ranger that will demand you get a permit or threaten to kick you out. I would not recommend staying here.
