Summary: | We stayed a couple days in January | |
Date: | January 13, 2012 |
My husband and I stayed a couple days here while traveling through Florida. Some things to note: The park gate closes at 8:00 and you will have to have a code to get in after that so if your coming late it could be a problem. It is part of the Naval base so the security is pretty tight. You will also only be able to have two vehicles at your site but there is overflow parking. Also the vegetation here is very thick even in the winter. The roads to the sites are very narrow and curvy and the sites are not very clearly marked. The sites themselves are on sand, none are paved. They also only have 30 amp power unless you make arrangements in advance and pay extra. We usually use 50 but had a converter with us and managed fine without having to use the A/C but it was January. I would think there would be a serious bug issue in warm weather. The good things about it though are it is quiet and secure and family friendly unless the kids get lost in the jungle of vegetation. There are tons of hiking and biking trails and direct access to both a lake and the ocean. My husband spotted an alligator in the lake so better watch the kids and pets. I made a visit to the beach at access points 9 and 5, there are several. The beach is awesome, the water was extremely cold in January of course but I still had fun taking pictures of the sunset and there were tons of shells. It is a nice place to hide away and have your own nearly private access to the beach and a lake right there too. I would prepare for hot weather and bugs if you come in the summer. I personally recommend beach access 9, it's beautiful.

A delightful municipal park which has started to over-price itself with a huge increase in 2006 over 2005.
