This campground has new owners who are doing a fabulous job. This campground is a gem and worth the trip, no matter where you are. The scenery is fantastic and there is a lot to see right from your campsite, but there are also lots of trails (both biking and walking) that start from the campground. Whether you tent or have a big rig, this is the place! It's quiet, clean and family friendly. We'll be back for sure!

i booked way in advance thinking i would get a really nice site and it looked okay on the comp. got there and although all the other reveiws say the owner is a jerk he was ok with me. the campground was nearly empty and we were told wed be secluded due to the space and sites available. since theres no place to fish the river in the campground we went out for the day only to return to a group of three directly across from me. the place was empty except for our two sites. the bathrooms is very far from the tent sites. theres a trail that is like a 1/4 mile long. the sites are small. if you like to party dont go here i was only with my gf but usaually go with a big group and we wouldnt have lasted here 1 day. try to avoid at all costs...

I couldn't disagree more, Chuck. Although I must admit the maintenance of this place is impeccable, and the river is a good one for kayaking, I wouldn't recommend it as a whole to my worst enemy. Annette, one of the owners, was positively rude and horrible to my group of campers, all because we were late for check-in, due to a thunderstorm and poor directions. You would have thought we had conspired to burn her facility down. We were simply late, and called from the road numerous times trying to explain our situation. That is how horribly we were treated. This woman has personality problems that border on paranoia, to the point where we almost declined check in and went to a local motel. The sites are small, barely enough room for two tents, and the "hanging out" part sits right on the road, so you have NO sense of privacy. I felt like I was camping on a high school soccer field. I do a LOT of camping and this was, by far, my worst experience with a campground owner. Annette needs to LOOSEN up. She's awful! Rude, rude, rude.

G8 Campground

We camped with our 13 year old son for 2 nights, and 3 days at the Ashuelot River Campground. Mark and Annette have a wonderful campground and we would not hesitate to visit again. We were thrilled with our site (#31) and thought the facilities were above average for tent camping. The distance from our site to the very clean and up to date bathrooms was no problem as we had our bikes along. The property is beautiful and Mark keeps it well manicured. We mountain biked for about 12 miles along the old rail trails and saw the covered bridges in the area. We also visited Mt. Monadnock which offers terrific hiking. We ran a 4 mile road race in the cool town of Keene, NH (10 min drive) and were impressed with how walkable and welcoming the community is there. Ashuelot River Campground was worth the visit and we would definitely stay again when in the NH area.

Best Regards,
Chuck

Very Dissapointing

With a beautiful fall scenery that was where the beauty ended, upon arrival at the campground all was great, upon entering and meeting the staff is where the fun ended, with extremely rude and unfrienly staff our stay was more like a prison yard survilance with every move being watched(kinda creepy)..if you are looking to relive age 15 with your parents yelling and watching every move you make this camp ground is the place for you.

disappointing

The only good things about camping at Ashuelot were the clean bathrooms and close proximity to Keene.
I was told my reservation was for a wooded riverside site. Unfortunately the only trees on the site were blocking my view of the river.
The owners of the campground make you feel like your invading their territory. We had a very un-welcome welcome...
Save yourself the disappointment and find another campground. There are many other beautiful places to stay in the monadnock region of NH.

Swanzey, New Hampshire is a beautiful picturesque town in the Monadnock foothills. The campground itself is very athetically pleasing being seated on the bed of the Ashuelot river. That's were the good ends and the bad begins at this campground. The staff were grouchy and disrespectful.

The Asheulot River campground reminded me more of a concentration camp than a camp ground. Stay away at all costs.
