Arndt’s Aroostook River Lodge and Campground should be considered your “Home away from Home”. We’re located in scenic & friendly Presque Isle, Maine in the northernmost region of Aroostook County. Our unique recreational camping facility offers the best in wild, native brook trout fishing, canoeing, big & small game hunting or just plain “family camping”! Your enjoyment of our establishment and the surrounding natural environment is of the utmost importance to us.

Arndt’s Aroostook River Lodge and Campground is situated on the banks of the Aroostook River, just 4 miles from the commercial center of Presque Isle. Families staying at our campground can take canoe trips ranging from only a few miles for the novice, to overnight trips starting at the headwaters of the Aroostook River seventy miles away. We have a canoe livery and a shuttle service to take you upriver for a leisurely float back to the campground.

Our full service campground facilities include 45 R. V. sites with water & electrical hook-ups, 20 tent sites, a 20 ft. X 40 ft. in-ground pool, a dump station, laundry & shower facility, campground store, a recreational hall and 10 full service sites with water, electric & sewer hook-ups. We also have a four person rental cabin available at the campground. The cabin features two double beds(no linens), a small corner table and an electric light. Water is only about 20 feet away, and bathroom facilities are available in our bath house, which is only a short walk.

We maintain several remote cabins approximately 25 miles from our main lodge. These secluded camps are available for those outdoor enthusiasts that desire a wilderness experience when either hunting and fishing or just plain relaxing far away from it all!

We were very pleased to find such a wonderful place to stay on our trip to northern ME. The accommodations were GREAT and the hosts were fantastic. They went out of their way to please us. The best snowmobiling trails in the country and the people are unbelievably friendly. We can't wait to return next year!

Maine's Best Kept Secret

Date:

Wow, it always amazes me how two different families can go to the same campground and have entirely different experiences. My husband and I have been camping here since May. The owners of Arndt's are the best. Why else would they have so many campers and lodge renters who come back year after year having nothing but praise for Clare and Ken, their campground and lodges? This place is awesome. It's well groomed and picturesque with miles of hiking trails. If you like to hunt or fish this is just the place to be. Maybe you're the more adventurous type. The campground trails give you access to the Nordic Heritage Center mountain biking trails. How about a relaxing float down the Aroostook River back down to the campground? If you don't have your own kayak or canoe you can rent one here. They even have a shuttle service. The Aroostook County ATV Trail is directly across the street offering over 1200 miles of contiguous trails. We used our friends ATV and did lots of exploring. During the Hot Air Balloon Festival we were able to sit at our campsite and watch hot air balloons float silently across the horizon. One even landed on the campground property. I've saved the best for last. The local Powered Para Gliders often fly over this area. My husband and son even took a ride on one. They described the experience as outrageous. My husband calls this place PARADISE... We both love it here and will be returning next year. Clare and Ken take tremendous pride in their campground. It may just be northern Maine's best kept secret. Tell the world! Wait, don't do that. Forget I ever mentioned it. It is selfishly our hidden treasure. The rolling farmlands, spectacular sunsets and the ever changing landscapes make each day a joy to behold. Our dog, Tucker, has given it his paw of approval. He would have given it two thumbs up but he doesn't have thumbs. Try it, we think you will love it. Kathy and Jim

In Feb we reserved 3 buildings at Arndt’s in order to have a first ever family reunion, the main house slept 12, the Med Cabin slept 8 and the little one slept 6 for a total of 26 adults. We had 20 adults, 2 teens, 4 tweens, 2 children and 5 toddlers. We were told that was fine as the toddlers and children were normally not counted. When we arrived they started saying there were too many people and they knew nothing about a reunion and told us we had to pay for 2 extra people per night and were also trying to get us to rent another cabin (which we agreed to do as we just wanted this to be a special weekend). The next day when they had to admit that all of this was in emails back and forth to them they changed their story and said we did not need the added cabin but still DID charge us the extra person fees (again we just wanted to be able to move on and enjoy the reunion). We spent the 1st day at the county fair and came back to the campgrounds around d 6 PM to have dinner with all of the family (which they were informed of our plans for each day by me so they knew our plans as well) While we were preparing dinner they came over again and this time said there were too many people there. Per their rules you are allowed equal amounts of visitors to the capacity of the cabins, we came no where close to having another 26 people there, there were about 20 family members aside from those of us staying at the site. My Uncle took them aside and read them the riot act for how they were behaving and they agreed to stop and let us continue with our reunion and said it would be ok to have our cookout the next day. The next day came and they loaded all of their picnic tables up and moved them up in to the back of the campgrounds where there were no facilities and no where to cook anything and as the family arrived they took photos of all vehicles and told them if they stayed longer then 3 hours they would be charged 10.00 per person. They never told us they would do that because we were going to have the cookout elsewhere and would have happily done that by then. We were never allowed to play any of the games we had planned and were made to feel completely uncomfortable the entire time we were there. When the cookout was ending my uncle went up to tell them he wished them no ill will and they told him "Really well we hate all of you and hope never to see any of you again”. I have video of the weekend and it was a quiet nice family weekend that could have been amazing but was completely destroyed by these owners that truly have no business running a campground or any other business I am sure. I hope that if you are considering staying at this campsite you reconsider as they are truly horrible people.

After planning a family reunion four months in advance for my 70 year old grandmother we arrived to find out they we trying to charge us for 38 people which in fact we had 28 five of which were under the age of four. We paid 2300 dollars to rent three cabins for three nights. we were not allowed to play any of the games we brought like tug of war, pie eating contests and were spyed on the whole time we were there. The onwers tried to ruin our stay as much as possible going as far as to wish ill will on my family when my 68 year old uncle tried to reason with them. And this is after trying to tell us they were a christian oriented family. They would come to our cabins at 9 and tell us it was time for bed and everyone had to leave, they went as far as to taking pictures of all our family entering so they could tell them to leave within three hours or make them pay ten dollars each. Which we were told in advance would not happen. I think the worst part was when they told us our children could not play outside because they were making to much noise. I nor will any member of my family or anyone we know ever stay at arndts ever again I seriously urge you to look else where unless you to want to deal with the same thing my family did. We went there to have a family reuion and enjoy ourselves and our vistors were forced to leave. Please take my advice keep looking.
